This page is dedicated to the memory of my brother, 1st Lt. Leland H. Walzel. It is intended to honor, not only him, but the many thousands of fliers who served with him during W.W.II. He was one of the many who never returned, leaving broken-hearted loved ones behind. It is my wish that they receive the recognition they deserve and that they are never forgotten. I hope it may help others gain information and insight into what they went through. Special thanks to my sister, Mildred Horner, who compiled a scrapbook of memorabilia saved by our mother and sister-in-law, Gussie Meyer, who allowed use of Leland's diary. Finally, to daughter and son-in-law, Nelda and Jimmy Blaschke, who developed this webpage, goes my deepest and heartfelt thanks for truly a labor of love.
